This painting titled “In the beginning”, is an intimate exploration of a peony in bloom. I love the perspective of a flower when it is so much larger than we normally experience it, like how a bee might encounter it. The Hebrew script is from the second verse of Genesis, and speaks to me of the inherent creative potential in every moment. There are references to the Fibonacci sequence, the I Ching, the poetry of Rumi, and the timeframe that flowering plants have been an expression of life on Earth. There are also references in German, Norwegian, Somali and Persian that read, “I understand”.
