Circumnavigating the archipelago of identity

Mixed-media painting (acrylic, collage, ink, graphite) titled Circumnavigating the archipelago of identity. 24×36 inches, 61×91 cm, cradled wood panel, unframed, completed in 2024. The surface is richly textured due to the layering of multiple collage elements. Available for $2900. Please inquire about domestic (U.S.) and international shipping. Paintings are securely packaged and crated for shipment.  My paintings are in collections around the United States and in multiple countries.

I’m fascinated by birds and have been ever since I was growing up on a ranch in Texas, where I enjoyed abundant wild birds. Where I live currently in Bisbee, Arizona, the diversity of bird life due to the town’s location on a major migratory path is one of the things I enjoy most. Ravens and other corvids are particularly interesting due to their intelligence and social behaviors, as well as their rich history as symbols in art and mythology. They appear frequently in my work. The title is a reference to the idea that our identities are composed of many interrelated factors, like islands in an archipelago, and mapping and exploring them is a rewarding part of any life’s work.
